Multi-touch is great when you want to enable complex features on a fairly intuitive and easy to read interface. But when deployed in a Windows or OSX environment common traditional elements such as screen orientation and workspace compatibility get in the way of development and are often more hassle than they are worth. The greatest thing about Multi-touch is collaboration and Pictionaire, a project by Andy Wilson and Björn Hartmann, really takes advantage of this and is an awesome tool for designers.
Although impractical at the moment due to costs and maintenance and complexity of the system we could well see this make its way on to the consumer based market in the future. This technology will allow designers to work both digitally and physically at the same time bridging an important gap in the design process and in turn reducing developing time through increasing productivity and allowing better access to information and through the digital interface.

If you want to blog you’ve got an array of tools you can use including WordPress and Blogger. If you want a forum your best bet is PHPBB and if you want a Virtual Learning Environment you have a strong selection of powerful services including Moodle. But what if you need to create a website fast due to a budget or time limitations. I know you can create Pages in WordPress but you can’t create the site without a Blog.
Why are there no successful control panel based PHP Publishing Applications? Think about it… you could create your site fast with custom themes and plugins and your clients can just jump in and make changes as when and often they need them, now I know what you’re thinking it would kill the Web Design industry surely? I don’t think so, people will still need themes and plugins and anyone who wants a website with a little innovativity will have to pay up and have it built in the old fashioned way.
Let me know what you think or if I’ve overlooked a service in the comments!

I went to London a few days back and tracked down a few interactive shop fronts, only one is worth showing though. The shop front to Phones4U on Oxford Street features an interactive phone, it wasn’t bad if anything limited in functionality but fun and easy to use and great use of advertising and multi-touch.

This awesome site features a small city built in PaperVision3D Away3D is built to promote F.One’s Kite Board – Bandit3. A little over the top and irrelevant for a Kite Board but I’m not complaining the designers Expressiv made a fantastic piece of work although I was unable to get any of the videos to play.

This animation blew me away, the high quality modeling of this animation was done by one guy Pantural. The animation is photo realistic and even kicks the ass of Crysis’s renders. Can’t wait until PaperVision3D gets this good, looking forward to 2075!

This is a good effective use of a Business Card, designed by Augmatic, it may at first seem like it fulfills a useful purpose but it truly does. Whats the point of a Business Card other than just giving your details, well I believe that it should show your work and personality and should be impressive, and this certainly ticks all those box’s.

Anyone who loves Flash for full on Web experiences should have heard of Disturb Media, based in the heart of London Disturb Media create some of the best examples of design on the web. I haven’t been on there site for a while but hey to me this is all very new, very sleek and best of all very cool. The site features there previous work including the awesome, Twigital that I featured earlier this month! The site background also constantly changes which may seem like a minor feature but it’s the little things that make this site really special. The thing I love most about this site though is the animation between the pages is simply beautiful.

Why? Well probably just because they can! This tech demo of a Multi-Touch Sphere is an interesting concept which I believe if applied correctly could have some useful and interesting applications, such as a globe and games. With the rise of Multi-Touch technology it will be interesting to see if this sort of technology will make it into day to day life.
